Finding Serenity: The Journey to Perfect Naps and the Perfect Chai Spice Biscotti
As a parent, certain victories feel monumental. For me, one such triumph recently unfolded: mastering my baby Josh’s nap schedule. While nighttime sleep has always been a breeze – a quick feed, a diaper change, and he’s back to dreamland – daytime naps were a different story. They were a battle, often ending abruptly after just 30 minutes, leaving both of us feeling restless.

I adored holding Josh as he slept; his tiny, peaceful face was a sight I could gaze at all day. But even the most dedicated parents need a moment to themselves. A quiet lunch, a tidy home, or even the simple luxury of a uninterrupted shower felt like distant dreams. That’s when I decided it was time for “nap training.”
My quest for consistent naps led me down an internet rabbit hole and through the pages of several parenting books. I became a sleep environment architect, transforming Josh’s room into a pitch-black sanctuary with aluminum foil-covered windows. A powerful white noise machine drowned out the persistent local roosters, and a low-set heating pad beneath his blanket simulated the comforting warmth of my presence. These meticulous efforts paid off in spades.

Now, Josh naps like a champion, enjoying three solid 1.5 to 2-hour stretches of sleep daily, all on his own. It truly feels like a miracle! The first time he slept past the 30-minute mark, I was ecstatic, then almost immediately found myself missing him, tiptoeing into his room just to lie beside him for a moment. Such is the paradox of parenthood.

However, the newfound pockets of quiet time are invaluable. My house is cleaner, I can actually enjoy lunch at a reasonable hour, and I have time for a shower, getting dressed, and even putting on makeup. More importantly, Josh is a happier, well-rested baby, and I’m a happier, more productive mom, able to tackle my to-do list with renewed energy.
Embracing the Ritual of Tea Time with Homemade Chai Spice Biscotti
One of my favorite ways to savor Josh’s late afternoon nap is by brewing myself a warm cup of tea. It’s a cherished ritual, a moment to appreciate the quiet house and the small caffeine boost that helps me power through the rest of the day. As a devoted “chai tea girl,” I’m always drawn to its warm, bold, and complex flavors.
Recently, Lipton’s Enticing Chai Black Tea has become my go-to. Lipton’s commitment to refreshing the tea experience shines through in their new black and herbal varieties, as well as their improved green teas. Flavors like Pure Green, Orange Passionfruit Jasmine, and Peach Mango offer stimulating and multi-sensory experiences, but for me, the Enticing Chai hits just the right spot, creating a uniquely comforting tea-drinking moment.

To elevate this afternoon tea ritual even further, I often treat myself to two of these homemade Chai Spice Biscotti. They are utterly delicious, infused with an aromatic blend of traditional chai spices: earthy cardamom, pungent clove, warm cinnamon, zesty ginger, subtle star anise, and a hint of white pepper. The scent that fills my kitchen while these are baking is simply divine and instantly transports me to a cozy, comforting space.
Why You’ll Love This Dairy-Free Chai Spice Biscotti Recipe
These Chai Spice Biscotti stand out from others you might have tried. Forget those rock-hard, jaw-breaking biscotti! This recipe yields a delightfully *tender* biscotti that is still sturdy enough for the best part of the experience: dunking. There’s nothing quite like dipping a perfectly spiced biscotti into a hot mug of chai tea, allowing it to soften just slightly before dissolving in your mouth.
And for an extra touch of elegance and sweetness, I finish these incredible biscotti with a delicate Chai Tea Glaze. Made with powdered sugar and a bit of strong brewed chai tea, it adds a beautiful sheen and another layer of delightful chai flavor, making them even prettier and utterly irresistible.
Biscotti, Italian for “twice-cooked,” are traditionally oblong, almond biscuits that originated in Prato, Italy. They are baked first as a log, then sliced and baked again, which gives them their characteristic crisp texture and extended shelf life. While historically paired with vin santo, their versatility makes them a fantastic accompaniment to coffee, and in this case, a fragrant cup of chai. Our dairy-free version ensures everyone can enjoy this classic treat.
Chai tea, on the other hand, boasts a rich history rooted in India. “Chai” simply means “tea” in Hindi, but what we commonly refer to as chai in the West is actually “masala chai,” a spiced tea blend. Typically made with black tea, a mixture of aromatic Indian spices (masala), milk, and a sweetener, it’s a beverage celebrated for its invigorating warmth and complex flavor profile. Bringing these two traditions together creates a harmonious and deeply satisfying experience.

- ¼ teaspoon ground star anise
- ¼ teaspoon white pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar

Chai Tea Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon strong brewed Lipton Enticing Chai Black Tea
Instructions
Chai Tea Spice Biscotti
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 C) with the oven rack in the middle. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk to combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, ginger, star anise, white pepper, and salt. Set aside.
-
In a separate medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk the 2 eggs + 2 egg yolks and granulated sugar until well combined, about 1 minute. Add the vanilla extract and whisk again to incorporate.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture, folding until just combined. The dough will appear somewhat dry.
-
Divide the dough in half. Using your hands, gently press each half into a separate 9″ x 3″ loaf shape on the prepared baking sheet. Pat them down until they are approximately ½” thick.
-
Bake for 35 minutes, rotating the cookie sheet halfway through baking to ensure even cooking. Remove from the oven and allow the baked loaves to cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet.
-
Lower the oven temperature to 325 degrees F (160 C).
-
Once the loaves are cool enough to handle, use a serrated knife to carefully cut ½” thick slices. Lay the slices cut-side down back onto the baking sheet. Bake the slices for another 15 minutes, turning each slice halfway through baking. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
Chai Tea Glaze
