My husband, Shawn, and I, along with my sister and her husband, embarked on an unforgettable wine-tasting adventure in the scenic Livermore Valley. Despite the surprising October heat, which saw temperatures soar past 90 degrees – a true Northern California anomaly – our spirits remained high. Thankfully, the region’s charming tasting rooms offered cool, air-conditioned sanctuaries where we could savor exceptional wines without discomfort.

The Livermore Valley, less crowded than some of its more famous counterparts, offers a uniquely intimate and delightful wine-tasting experience. We spent hours meandering through picturesque vineyards, learning about the local terroir, and discovering new favorite varietals. It’s a wonderful modern way to bridge geographical distances and keep our friendships thriving.

One evening, a picture popped up from Courtney in Hawaii, beautifully capturing her “cheersing” us from afar with a glass of wine against a stunning tropical backdrop. The response was almost instantaneous. Within a minute, my friend Logan and I had both replied with our own pictures, each holding a glass of wine, effectively “cheersing” her right back. It was a spontaneous, funny, and deeply comforting moment that underscored our shared bond. It seems us gals have a collective affinity for unwinding with a glass (or perhaps two!) of wine in the evening, often around the very same time. These small, virtual rituals are invaluable in keeping our friendships vibrant and remind us that no matter the distance, we’re always just a text—and a sip—away from each other.

A few days after our last wedding, the bride reached out, letting us know she had something special for us. When I picked it up this week, I was absolutely overwhelmed by her generosity and thoughtfulness. It wasn’t just a small token; it was an entire case of wine – a magnificent collection of twelve bottles – accompanied by a beautifully hand-written thank you card and an incredibly generous cash tip. Isn’t that just the sweetest gesture imaginable? It truly warms my heart and reaffirms my love for the wonderful brides I have the privilege of working with.

Shawn and I decided to use this thoughtful tip to treat ourselves to a much-needed weeknight date, celebrating our hard work and the wonderful client relationships we cultivate. We chose Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill, a truly exceptional restaurant in Oakland, renowned for its stunning location right on the lake. The ambiance is simply magical, especially as the sun sets over the water, creating a serene and romantic backdrop. As avid seafood lovers, our choice of appetizer was a no-brainer: fresh, briny oysters, perfectly shucked and presented. Every dish at Lake Chalet, from the appetizers to the main courses, is a culinary delight, but those oysters truly started our evening on a high note. It was a perfect way to unwind, reconnect, and savor some exquisite food in a beautiful setting, all thanks to the kindness of an appreciative bride.

Max’s Mischievous Antics: A Leash-Chewing Escape Artist

For those who follow our adventures, it’s no secret that our beloved dog, Max, possesses a boundless energy and an almost uncanny knack for finding himself in humorous, albeit sometimes troublesome, situations. This week was no exception to Max’s mischievous charm. We were enjoying a peaceful afternoon sitting outside, soaking up the fresh air. Keeping Max on a leash is always a necessity when outdoors, as his curiosity and prey drive mean he’ll dart off at the first sight of anything interesting. On this particular day, a flock of turkeys had wandered into view, instantly captivating Max’s attention. He was absolutely fixated, straining against his leash, desperate to go chase them.

As he pulled and tugged, he started to chew intently on his leash. Shawn, ever the astute observer of Max’s antics, jokingly remarked, “I bet he’s trying to chew his way out.” We chuckled, thinking little of it. However, just a few minutes later, our laughter turned to surprise as Max, with an air of casual nonchalance, began to slowly walk away from us… completely untethered! He had, indeed, chewed right through his leash, demonstrating an impressive display of determination and dental prowess. Thankfully, we reacted swiftly and managed to grab him before he could embark on a grand turkey-chasing expedition. It was a testament to his cleverness and a hilarious reminder that with Max, you always have to expect the unexpected. Pet ownership certainly comes with its unique set of challenges and endless comedic moments!

After his daring escape, I immediately dashed inside to retrieve a much thicker and more robust leash – one I was confident even Max’s determined jaws wouldn’t be able to conquer. This new leash was also a little longer, which, coincidentally, gave him an even better vantage point to observe his beloved turkeys. He settled in, somewhat defeated but still captivated, and spent the rest of the afternoon in contented observation, his escape artist ambitions momentarily thwarted by superior leash technology. It’s these small, daily adventures that truly make life with a pet so wonderfully entertaining.

A Milestone Achieved: My First Solo Wedding Photography Experience

This past week marked a truly monumental moment in my professional journey: I successfully completed the editing of my very first wedding as a solo photographer! The feeling of accomplishment is immense, and I am absolutely thrilled with how the final images turned out. Leading up to this wedding, I’ll admit, a healthy dose of nervousness accompanied me. While Shawn and I have worked together on numerous engagement sessions and contributed to many wedding films for Acorn Films, this was my inaugural venture as the primary photographer, solely responsible for capturing every precious moment of a couple’s special day.

Despite the initial jitters, the actual wedding day was an absolute dream. The couple was simply radiant – so beautiful, so deeply in love, and beaming with happiness. Their joyous energy made my job incredibly easy and allowed me to relax into the rhythm of capturing their story. Every candid smile, every tender glance, every celebratory moment felt effortless to document. Showing Shawn the “top” pictures I selected and posted on Facebook yesterday was a profoundly moving experience. The look of immense pride on his face made my eyes well up with happy tears.
